Dean Copeland

Dean Copeland, 80, died Friday, July 12, 2013, in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, July 15, 2013, in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Copeland was born June 26, 1933 in Walters, Oklahoma and was a 1951 graduate of Walters High School. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK on a football scholarship and graduated in 1956 with a BS degree in pharmacy. After pharmacy school, Dean served in the Texas National Guard in Wichita Falls and Borger. He practiced pharmacy in Chickasha, OK, Wichita Falls, Borger, and Pampa where he had been a resident since 1965. Dean owned and operated Dean’s Pharmacy in Pampa from 1982 until his retirement in 2003. Dean married Carolyn Acord on April 28, 1953 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pampa and was a board member and board chairman of Texas Panhandle Mental Health Authority for several years. He was a former member of the Borger Lions Club and was a board member and a past drive chairman of the Pampa United Way. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Copeland, of the home; two daughters, Nan Rivera and husband Arcadio M. of Amarillo, and Neysa Brown and husband Joe of Pampa; a son, Michael Copeland and wife Martha of Burns Flat, OK; a sister, Sylvia Edgmon and husband Jimmy of Walters, OK; two brothers, Melvin Copeland and wife Wyva Rheu of Walters, OK, and Jackie Ray Copeland and wife Pam of Coppell; four grandchildren, Hannah Rivera and Adam Rivera, both of Amarillo, Brooke Autry of Pampa, and SSgt. Erik Brown of Fort Hood; and a great grandson, Taylor Joe Autry, of Pampa.
