Gwen McAdams Tidwell

April 2, 1930 — October 5, 2012

Services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, October 8, 2012, at Briarwood Church, with Rev. Lynn Hancock, pastor, officiating.Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Mrs. Tidwell was born April 2, 1930 in McLean. She came to Pampa in June of 1941 from Kermit, and graduated from Pampa High School in May of 1947. Gwen was married to Clyde Tidwell in 1949 by Dr. Douglas Carver in the First Baptist Church in Pampa. They have been residents of Pampa for all but one year of their 63 years of marriage.Through the years, Gwen worked for Tom Perkins Drug, Fatheree Drug, Dr. H. H. Hicks, and JC Penney Company. She was the textbook coordinator for Pampa Independent School District for 31 years, and was also secretary to the superintendent of schools and the school board for 11 of those years. She was an avid bowler and golfer for many years. Gwen was a big Harvester supporter and traveled many miles to watch her grandchildren compete in golf, tennis and rodeo.She was preceded in death by a young daughter: Connie Sue; her parents: Herman W. and Annie E. Henley McAdams; a brother: Calvin McAdams, 2 sisters: Joann Kelley and Delores Cooper Hall; and a grandson: Jeremy Morris. She is survived by her husband: Clyde Tidwell of the home; a daughter: Cara Morris and husband Robert of Amarillo; a son: Alan Tidwell and wife Cathy of Gainesville; 2 granddaughters: Cami Ferland and husband Lance of Murphy, and Lindsay Perez and husband Dr. Brandon Perez of Galveston; 3 grandsons: Cory Stone and Chris Morris, both of Lewisville, and Justin Morris and wife Andrea of Amarillo; 8 great-grandchildren: Cooper and Gracie Stone, Trevor and Luke Ferland, Jeremy and Graham Morris, and Davis and Emma Kate Perez; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several cousins. The family would like to extend special thanks to Debbie, Juanita, Carmen, and Sylvia at Interim Hospice for the wonderful care given to Gwen.Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, Suite 12-A, Lubbock, Texas 79424, or the American Heart Association, National Center, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75231.
