A chapel service for Mr. Vernon T. Stowers, 82, Cordell resident, will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel in Clinton, Oklahoma officiated by Rev. Tyler Looper and burial will conclude in the Union Hatchett Cemetery near Bessie, under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.Vernon Thomas Stowers was born November 13, 1929 to Thomas Lafayette "Fate" Stowers and Ruby Lois (King) Stowers in Retrop, OK and passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the Cordell Christian Home in Cordell, OK.Vernon was raised in Retrop community where his family farmed and his grandfather was the country doctor. He attended Retrop School and graduated in 1948. He was married to Norma Jean Smith and she preceded him in death in 1951. He continued his education at Sayre Junior College in Sayre, Oklahoma and also attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK. He was then married to Betty Joyce Jones on June 21, 1952, and that same year he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War and was stationed in Wichita Falls, TX. He was honorably discharged in 1956. They made their home in Pampa, TX where they resided for the next fifty years. He was employed by Welex for three years and then formed his own service company and S&W Wire Line Services. That was the first company and he would form several others during his lifetime. He went from service company to oil and gas producer and his sons and daughters all worked together in Stowers Oil and Gas.Vernon had many interests. He loved airplanes, antique cars, and he loved to travel. He was a pilot and served on Perry Lefors Airport Board in Pampa for seventeen years. He had many loves - first he loved the Lord and tried to be a Good Samaritan all his life. He helped many families in need and was an example for us all.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean, parents and a brother, Walter Stowers. He is survived by his wife of over sixty years, Betty of the Cordell home, two sons, Dennis Vernon Stowers and wife, Tonja, of Pampa, TX and Keith Stowers and wife, Robin, of Edmond and two daughters, Veronica Jean Carroll and husband, Jay, of Crowell, TX, Kimberly Sue Skinner and husband, Jeff, and sister, Kathleen Hipkins, all of Pampa, TX. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.The family has suggested those wishing to give a memorial contribution may do so to the Cordell Christian Home "E" Wing, 1400 North College, Cordell, OK 73632.
