SERVICES: 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Owens, associate pastor, and Joe Mabry, officiating.BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Smith was born August 11, 1933 in Ada, Oklahoma. He graduated from both Ada High School and East Central University in Ada with a Bachelor's degree in science. He married Georgia L. Parsons on July 3, 1953. He coached girls' basketball for 9 years in Oklahoma and then moved to Pampa to take the position of director of the Pampa Youth and Community Center where he worked for 17 years. George was responsible for the planning and designing of the health club and the track at the youth center. He then went to work for Celanese, retiring after approximately 15 years of service. George was a very active member of First Baptist Church, serving as deacon and singing in the choir. He taught in the church nursery and throughout Sunday school classes. He loved to travel with Georgia. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. SURVIVORS: his wife: Georgia L. Smith of the home; 3 sons: Scott A. Smith of Pampa, Cary Smith and wife Cheryl of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Bryan MacLeod and wife Miryam of Parker, Colorado; a grandson: Dakota MacLeod of Denver, Colorado; a granddaughter: Kayla Smith of Chandler, Arizona; and a sister: Ima Jean Erwin and husband Mickey of New Waverly.
