SERVICES: 10:00 AM Monday, August 6, 2012, at First Baptist Church with Johnny Plum, officiating.BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: John was born on April 13, 1953 in Plainview, Texas and was raised in Petersburg, Texas where he attended school. Following graduation, John attended Southwest Business College in Plainview, Texas where he became a court reporter. He married Rebecca O'Neal on August 17, 1979 in Pampa. John spent most of his adult life working in the oilfield. He worked for Samson Drilling and Key Energy as an independent oilfield consultant. Prior to that, he worked for Baker Oil Tools. He was a member of Faith Advent Christian Fellowship of Pampa where he served as a deacon. John thought the world of his three boys, and he loved spending any time he could with his only granddaughter Charlotte. John was a thinker with a dry, but playful sense of humor. He enjoyed playing video games and reading. When he was home, he was inseparable from his faithful pet Chihuahua, Snickers. John loved the Lord, and he always tried to think of others before himself. He became an organ donor with the hope that his contribution would bring others the hope of life.SURVIVORS: his wife: Rebecca of the home; their three sons: Seth Lewis of Pampa, Jacob Lewis, Christopher Lewis and wife Gina, all of Amarillo; and his only granddaughter: Charlotte. He is also survived by his mother: Joyce Holley of Mooresville, North Carolina; his mother-in-law: Edna O'Neal of Pampa; his brother: Jerry Lewis and wife Linda of Pampa; his sisters: Terri Herrington and husband Dan of Boerne, Tanaya Krauss and husband Craig of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Suzie McConnell of Groton, Connecticut; his sisters-in-law: Deborah Bailey and husband Johnny, and Kathy Johnson and husband Tim, all of Pampa; his nieces and nephews: Matt, Mark, and Luke Bailey, Joshua, Jarrett, and Patrick Parsons, Jason Herrington, Stacie Barker, Krystin Price, Kayden Mims, Blake Frye, Tara Jackson, Jamie Morris, Nathan Davis, and Robyn Wing; his great nieces and nephews: Jordan, Jadyn, Courtney, Addison, Kinsley, Lane, Alex, Ryan, Ava, Madison, and Nataleigh; and his former exchange students: Richard and Robson Rodrigues of Birigui, Brazil, whom he thought of as sons. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Lewis of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In memory of John, the family would like to encourage his friends to register as organ donors.
