SERVICES: Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday,October 1, 2011, at Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church at 2100 W. Kentucky, with Rev. C. W. Parker, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Schmatjen was born July 5, 1939 in Bloom, Kansas. He was raised in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, and raised his family of three children in Phoenix, Arizona. Marvin was a salesman who started at the bottom and built up his territory. He was a great man who never ceased to impress his clients or family. He had been a resident of Pampa for the past ten years. He had a passion for restoring cars. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Marvin was a great father. He took much pride in his grandchildren and his love for them was unmatched. He had a great impact on his family. Marvin was a father who took such pride in what his children did, and they always knew he was on their side, wanting to see them through. He was one who kindly reassured his family, the one whose time was always for his family. He was a father who cared for what his family had to say. His gentle words often brightened up the day. He had a quiet strength that endured, and a love that was always theirs. He gave so much of himself so often, without expecting anything in return. He was the best father anyone could ever have, and was loved more than words could say. SURVIVORS: 3 sons: John Schmatjen and wife Susan of Pampa, Allen Schmatjen of Phoenix, Arizona, and Brian Vox of Denver, Colorado; daughter: Diann Schmatjen; 4 grandchildren: Kaydee Schmatjen, Marshall Lee, McKayla Marie and Haylee Renee.
