SERVICES: 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Dr. Johnny Funderburg, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.BURIAL: Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Mobeetie Cemetery, with military honors courtesy of U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas. Arrangements under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Bailey was born February 14, 1926 in Mobeetie where he was reared on his grandparent's ranch, the Jap Johnston Ranch. He attended Mobeetie schools and graduated from Mobeetie High School. Bill was a veteran of the U. S. Army Cavalry during World War II, serving during the occupation of Japan. His group arrived in Japan 10 days after the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He married Louise Matthews on December 27, 1948 in Groom. He began working for Bethlehem Supply and later worked for Skelly Oil (which later became Texaco) for over 20 years, retiring in 1988. He ranched his family's land for all of his adult life, and ranched full time after his retirement from Texaco. Bill loved music and played several instruments. He played in the Stokes Dance Band. After his retirement, he and his friends played at several locations around town for the elderly. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Everyman's Bible Class. He was a member of the Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge #1381 AF & AM. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather.SURVIVORS: wife: Louise Bailey of the home; a daughter: Vicki Chenault and husband Don of Austin; his brother: Hugh Bailey of Mobeetie; 2 grandsons: Ben Bailey of Amarillo and Austin Bailey of Chicago, Illinois; 1 granddaughter: Katherine Bailey of Chicago, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Stephen Vern Bailey in November of 2009; his sister: Clara Hoffer; and a brother: Jasper Bailey.MEMORIALS: Old Mobeetie Jail Museum, Mobeetie, Texas 79061, or Tralee Crisis Center for Women, 308 S.
