Suella Moore Whitney

SERVICES: Graveside services were at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 22, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Oklahoma. Memorial services will be at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 1, 2010, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Blossom Matthews, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Whitney was born May 6, 1910 in Wichita Falls, and moved to Dallas at an early age. Known as "Sue" to family and friends, she lived a life of service to others and was a wonderful caregiver to her husband and friends. When asked through the years where she was from, she always said "from Dallas." She and Frank H. Whitney were married on December 17, 1932 in Dallas. He preceded her in death in 1994. They grew up together and shared a life of music. Both were soloists with St. Matthews Episcopal Cathedral in Dallas. They moved to Elk City, Oklahoma, in 1938 where they continued their love of music and service in the United Methodist Church. Sue and Frank had two children; a daughter, Susanne Whitney Lane, and a son, Thomas Whitney. Both were the light of their lives. She was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Several of her great-grandchildren wrote papers on what a remarkable person she was. Possessed with a great sense of humor, wonderful colloquial sayings, and an independence to be her own person, she will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her son, and a brother, Thomas Moore.The family would like to express their appreciation to Shepard's Crook Home Health Care and Suella's caregivers for their kind and loving care.SURVIVORS: her daughter: Susanne Lane and husband Don of Pampa; a grandson: Dr. Richard Lane and wife Pamela of Edmond, Oklahoma; a granddaughter: Susan Lane Chaney and husband Jackson of Southlake; great-grandchildren: Jennifer Lane Dye and husband Adam of Yukon, Oklahoma, Thomas Lane of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Taylor Lane of Providence, Rhode Island, and Jarod Chaney and Whitney Chaney, both of Southlake; all of whom she loved dearly and in whom she had great pride. Sue was also survived by two nieces: Carol Johnson of Roseburg, Oregon, and Mary Mueller of Aloha, Oregon.MEMORIALS: United Methodist Church, 700 W.
