George Marion Baxter

SERVICES: 2:00 PM Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Brother Albert Green, pastor of First Baptist Church at Rocksprings, Texas, officiating.BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with Masonic rites courtesy of Borger Unity Masonic Lodge #1242. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Baxter was born February 13, 1927 in Shamrock. He attended schools in Shamrock and Lefors, and attended high school in Pampa. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Miami during World War II. George married Norma Jean Ritter on August 19, 1944 in Pampa. He was employed by Santa Fe Railroad for a few years. He formed his own business, Adobe Mud Co., in 1960 in Borger, where he worked until 1984. He also formed Hydroc Oil Co. and Arapaho Production Co. George was a member of the Borger Masonic Lodge as well as the Khiva Shrine Temple, Order of the Eastern Star #811, and the Scottish Rite Consistory. He was an avid golfer, and he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.SURVIVORS: his children: Rhonda Sperry and husband Floyd of Borger, and Glenn Baxter of Granbury; their mother: Norma Jean Baxter of Granbury; 6 granddaughters: Amy Fernandez of Borger, Lisa Maynard of Waxahachie, Jennifer Donaldson of Arlington, Allison Baxter of Dallas, Jeorj York of Amarillo, and Emily McFarling of Denton; 1 grandson: Brian Baxter of Marysville, Ohio; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother: Floyd Baxter of Pampa; and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Alene Stroup; 4 brothers: Ralph Baxter, Ruel Baxter, Boyd Baxter and Garland Baxter; and a son: Rick Baxter.MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that friends bring balloons to Fairview Cemetery to be released at the conclusion of the graveside services, or memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 815 Market St., Galveston, Texas 77550-2725 or Texas Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 190567, Dallas, Texas 75219-0567.
