Lois Foster Watkins

SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, Texas with Dr. Edwin Cooley, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Cordell, Oklahoma, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Watkins was born Jan. 18, 1921 in Drumright, Oklahoma to Frank and Gertie Perswell Foster. As a young girl, Lois and her family moved to Pampa with her parents in 1928. She graduated from Pampa High School and attended Texas Tech University where she majored in home economics. She was a resident of Pampa from 1928 until moving to Butler, Oklahoma in 2006 to live next to their son, Jay, and daughter-in-law, Carol. Lois married Melvin "Red" Watkins on June 27, 1941 in Sayre, Oklahoma, and they established a life together in Pampa. Their marriage of 69 wonderful years was blessed with three sons, Tod Foster, Jay Lynn, and Bryan Kip. Lois enjoyed a full life raising her sons and loving all her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an active member of the Pampa community. She was a homemaker and an Avon representative for 15 years. Lois was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was active in PTA, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and many bridge clubs. She was a member of the Pampa Country Club where she was an avid golfer who took her games seriously. Lois was water aerobics instructor at the Pampa Youth and Community Center.SURVIVORS: loving husband: Melvin "Red" Watkins of the home; 2 sons: Tod Watkins and wife Vickye of Deer Park, TX and Jay Watkins and wife Carol of Butler, OK; a sister: Frankie "Pink" Keogh of Littleton, CO; 8 grandchildren: Mechelle Hardin of Pasadena; Kelly Watkins of Georgia; Jeff Watkins of Buffalo, OK; Skyler Watkins of Deer Park, Amy Blessington of Oklahoma City; Jodi Smith of Amorita, OK; Bryan Maley and Melissa Maley, both of Baytown; and 15 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Burt Watkins of Safford, AZ; several nieces and nephews and special friends. Lois was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Kip Watkins, her parents, Frank and Gertie Foster, and by 2 brothers, Jack Foster and Don Foster.Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons Kelly Watkins, Jeff Watkins, Skyler Watkins, Alan Hardin, Bryan Maley, Chris Blessington, and Ty Smith.MEMORIALS: First Presbyterian Church Book of Remembrance, 525 N.
