SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, March 12, 2010, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, with Monty Joiner, Wells Street Church of Christ minister, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Barnard was born March 11, 1937 in Minco, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, serving 3 years in Japan, San Diego, California, and Oscotta, Michigan. After his discharge, he married LaVonne Stewart on November 30, 1957 in Sweetwater, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Texas National Guard. J. D. had been a resident of Pampa since 1947. He worked for Celanese, retiring in 1981, at which time he began his career in law enforcement. He worked as a jailer and then jail administrator for 4 years. Later, he worked as the bailiff for the 223rd District Court. First and foremost, J. D. was a Church of Christ minister for 28 years at the McCullough Street Church of Christ. He was a member of the Wells Street Church of Christ. He enjoyed the outdoors and watching wildlife. J.D. will be remembered as a devoted man of Christ, husband, father and precious "Pappa". SURVIVORS: wife: LaVonne Barnard of the home; 2 sons: Ricky Barnard and wife Tammy of Amarillo, and Gary Barnard and wife Cynthia, of Pampa; a daughter: Amy Devers and husband David of Pampa; 2 grandsons: Dylan Barnard of Amarillo and Michael Feagin of Trinidad, Colorado; 8 granddaughters: Amanda Heightman and husband Jason of El Reno, Oklahoma, Brittany Barnard, Chelsea Barnard and Marissa Barnard, all of Amarillo, Misty Hogue and husband Josh of Borger, Michelle Barnard, and Alisha Nelson and husband John, all of Arlington, and Nicole Devers of Trinidad, Colorado; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother: J. E. Barnard of Amarillo; a sister: Reba Hanks; and many nieces and nephews. J. D. was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Harold Lee Barnard, Desmond Barnard, and S. A.
