SERVICES: 11:00 AM Monday, February 8, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, with John Curry, officiating.BURIAL: Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors courtesy of U. S. Air Force, Altus, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Gattis was born October 3, 1919 in Paducah, and was a graduate of Paducah High School. He attended North Texas State University in Denton before entering the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1941. He served in the European Theatre during World War II. John married Jane Kelley on August 1, 1941 in Brownwood. She preceded him in death on July 17, 1994. John and his wife came to Pampa in 1968 from Amarillo and he owned and operated John Gattis Shoe Store until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member and past president of the Downtown Kiwanis Club and was past district governor. He was a member of the Pampa Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Association, and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross.SURVIVORS: daughter: Jana Gregory of Pampa; 2 sons: Mike Gattis and wife Sally of Montgomery and Gary Gattis of Pampa; 11 grandchildren: Taylen Gregory of Pampa, Andrea Long and husband Matt of Mobeetie, Kelley Jo Wells and husband Dan of Grand Prairie, Meranda Dawkins of Mesquite, Stephanie Knabe and husband Cory of Frisco, Hollie Koehn and husband Brian of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rickey Gattis of Amarillo, Jennifer Garber and husband Mike of Prescott, Arizona, Shantay Gattis and husband Jason of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeff Gattis and wife Mary Beth of Lubbock, and Christopher Gattis of Tahoka; 13 great-grandchildren: Weston, Dre, Rylan, Braley, Keighly Jane, Sadie Jane, Jordan, McKenna, Riley, Nicholas, Lucas, Matthew and Zachary. John was preceded in death by a son: Rodger Gattis in 2000; and by a son-in-law: Rick Whaley in 1983. MEMORIALS: Eastern Texas Panhandle Red Cross, 108 N. Russell, Pampa, Texas 79065.
