SERVICES: Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa with Rev. Fines Marchman, pastor of First Baptist Church of Skellytown, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Jones was born April 4, 1914 in Johnson County, Texas. He attended school in Cleburne and Wichita Falls. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. He married Clarice Gillis on September 9, 1943 in Alexandria, VA. He moved to Pampa in 1946 where he was owner/operator of Lester A. Jones Oil Well Servicing until he retired in 1965. He was the commander of the American Legion Post 334 in Pampa in 1957. Lester was instrumental in forming the annual Easter egg hunt for Pampa and the surrounding area, and was the organizer of the Pampa Rebels baseball team. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Pampa. Lester loved to travel, and he has now left us to go on the greatest journey of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Judith Louise Jones, and brother: Windle G. Jones.SURVIVORS: Wife: Clarice Jones of the home. 2 sons: Howard R. Jones of the home and Jesse A. Jones of Newport Beach, California. 1 sister: Evelyn Green of Plano. 1 grandson: Mark C. Jones of Ft. Worth, Texas.
