SERVICES: 2:00 PM Friday, September 25, 2009, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Paul Nachtigall of Highland Baptist Church, and Paul Carruth, Leta's son, officiating.BURIAL: Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Jeffers was born July 18, 1936 in Ralston, Oklahoma, to Wayman and Vera Staus. At the age of 16, she married John Lloyd Carruth on December 21, 1952 and they made their home on the family farm east of Pampa. A few years later, they moved into Pampa where they raised four children together, moving away for a time to Houston and Liberal, Kansas, and returning to Pampa in the mid 1970's. John preceded her in death in February of 1993. Leta was blessed with a second marriage and the loving companionship of Warren "Gene" Jeffers on December 21, 1997. She was a homemaker and a member of Highland Baptist Church. Leta loved God, spending time with her family, her church, sewing, crafts and music, playing games of all kinds with kids, grandkids and adults, fishing, and laughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Billy Ray Staus and Jim Staus.SURVIVORS: her husband of 12 years: Warren "Gene" Jeffers of the home; a daughter: Judy Praytor and husband Robert of Newalla, Oklahoma; 3 sons: David Carruth and wife Dee of Louisville, Kentucky, Paul Carruth and wife Marquetta of Pampa, and Mike Carruth of Casper, Wyoming; 2 stepsons: Bob Jeffers and wife Phyllis of Pampa, and Joe Jeffers and wife Terri of Tulsa, Oklahoma: a stepdaughter: Leigh Ann Crain and husband Mike of Pampa; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Linda Bogert of Gillette, Wyoming, and Dorothy Edmondson and husband Tony of San Antonio; numerous nieces and nephews; countless friends; and a precious church family. Leta requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Highland Baptist Church Building Fund, 1301 N. Banks, Pampa, Texas 79065.
