SERVICES: Celebration of Life services will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church at 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2009, with The Reverend Linda Kelly, rector, officiating, assisted by The Right Reverend Sam B. Hulsey, retired Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas, and The Reverend William Hethcock of Sewanee, Tennessee. Inurnment of ashes will be in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church columbarium. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Mrs. Arrington was born December 3, 1935 in Amarillo to the late Bernice Schafer Miller and Lee Roy Miller. She attended public schools in Pampa until her junior/senior high school years at which time she attended Ferry Hall in Lake Forest, Illinois, graduating in 1954. She attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.On December 27, 1955 she married William Lake "Bill" Arrington of Canadian. They were the first couple to be married in the new St. Matthew's Episcopal Church building at 727 W. Browning in Pampa.Greta was active in civic affairs and was very involved in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. She held many positions at St. Matthew's through the years: past chairman and member of St. Matthew's Day School Board, Altar Guild directress, Sr. Warden, Chairman of the Memorial Committee, and served on the vestry. She was a charter member and past president of the Pampa Junior Service League. She served as chairman of the White Deer Land Museum Foundation and was a member of the Community Concert Board. She was known for her cooking, entertaining and being the perfect hostess. Greta was a very loving grandmother and was particularly proud of all four of her grandchildren receiving their university degrees.She is survived by her husband of 53 years: William Lake "Bill" Arrington; a son: William Miller "Buck" Arrington and wife Alexia Reynolds Arrington of Pampa; a daughter: Melanie Lake Arrington Smith and husband Flavious J. Smith, Jr., of Fort Worth; four grandchildren: William Lake Arrington, II, Elizabeth Aston Arrington, William Hulsey Smith, and Peyton Miller Smith; and one sister: Patricia Miller Lively and husband J. Robert Lively; many cousins, nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Matthew's Memorial Fund, 727 W. Browning, Pampa, Texas 79065, or to the charity of your choice.
