John Lewis Browning Johnson

SERVICES: 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ, with Floyd Stumbo, with The Children's Home of Lubbock, and Mark Lance, minister of Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ, officiating.BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmicahel-Whatley Funeral Directors. BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Johnson was born July 23, 1920 in Odessa, the fifth of six children of Mary and Earl Johnson. His family moved to the farm south of Pampa when he was five years old. This is where he met Marion, his wife of almost 60 years, and raised his children. John's strength lay in his foundation of farm, family and church. He was a progressive farmer and cattleman, pioneering in soil conservation and other techniques befitting the land. John grew his cattle production from a few calves to running as many as 1,200 head a year. He was a lifelong member of the Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ. John suffered a stroke at home on the farm on November 6, 2008. He was hospitalized for two months and died from upper respiratory complications. SURVIVORS: Wife: Marion of the home; daughter: Mary Bartley and husband Jerry of Plano; granddaughter: Blair Bartley of Plano; sister: Evelyn Inman of Plainview. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to John's lifelong charity: The Children's Home of Lubbock, P.O. Box 2449, Lubbock, Texas 79408.
