SERVICES: 11:00 AM Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Chaplain John Elser of the VA Medical Center in Amarillo, officiating.BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery with military rites courtesy of the U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Jones was born May 17, 1923 on a small farm in Parnell, Texas to Jessie and Rufe Jones. He grew up surrounded by a loving family, aunts, uncles, and cousins who were like brothers and sisters. He married the love of his life, Glorice Haynes, on August 26, 1946 in Panhandle, Texas. She preceded him in death in May 2008, after 61 years of marriage. They were introduced by his future brother-in-law, Johnnie Reynolds, where the two worked together at Motor Inn Supply. Mr. Jones has been a resident of Pampa since 1946. During this time he sold cars for Tex Evans Buick Co., and owned several service stations; the Old Gulf on Foster, the Gulf on Hobart, and the Coronado Conoco for 20 years. He was a Army veteran and served with the 746 Tank Battalion. He was a tank instructor at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He served in England, France, Belgium, and Berlin. He kept in touch with several of his old Army buddies, several which credited him with saving their lives. Mr. Jones was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a dedicated loving son, husband, and father. He loved training race horses, fishing, playing dominoes, and spending time with his family. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jessie and Rufe Jones; a brother; Doyle T. Jones, and a grandson: Vandy Vanderburg.Survivors: 2 daughters: Sandy Vanderburg and husband Freddy of Odessa, and Becky Dalton and husband Greg of Pampa. 1 son: Michael Jones and wife Regina of Pampa; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Brother-in-law: Walden Haynes and wife Joy. 2 sister-in-laws: Wauline Reynolds and Jerry Haynes; and two nieces, Donna Slavick and Jana Dutton.MEMORIALS: Community Living Center, 6010 Amarillo Blvd. West, Amarillo, Texas 79106.SPECIAL NOTICE: The family will be at 2701 Duncan St.
