SERVICES: 2:00 PM Monday, December 8, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, with John Curry, and Rev. Jeff Taylor, officiating.BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Jones was born January 28, 1927 in Cordell, Oklahoma. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, joining on July 19, 1945 and serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 8, 1947. He married Jean Walker on April 24, 1954 in Pampa. He was a former member of the Church of the Brethren and was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church. Wayne was employed by Cabot Corp. for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Hidden Hills Golf Course Advisory Board. He was also a member of the Pampa Optimist Club where he spent 29 years working with various Optimist sports programs, coaching and attaining the rank of Babe Ruth State Commissioner. He enjoyed many years of travel throughout the United States and overseas, as well as RV camping with the Texas Panhandlers Camping Club. SURVIVORS: Wife: Jean Jones of the home; 2 daughters: Pam Minchin and husband John of Encinitas, California, and Connie Thornburg of Amarillo; 1 son: Tim Jones and wife Katie of Westfield, New Jersey; 6 grandchildren: Sgt. Ryan Chisum, USMC, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Marlee Chisum of Amarillo, Sydney Minchin and Madison Minchin, both of Encinitas, California; Andrew Jones and Daniel Jones, both of Westfield, New Jersey; 1 brother: Dale Jones of Cordell, Oklahoma. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.The family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and aids from Shepard's Crook Home Health Care, BSA Hospice, and the home caregivers for their special care of Wayne.
