Jesus Velasquez

June 27, 1922 — August 6, 2008

SERVICES: 10:00 AM Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with Barnabas Radke, deacon with St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, and Rev. Bob Hudson, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. BURIAL: Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors courtesy the U. S. Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Velasquez was born June 27, 1922 in Lockhart. He spent part of his youth in Lockhart and later moved to Spur where he lived for many years. Jesus was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He married Lupe Olivarez on June 8, 1946 in Spur. He worked and farmed in many towns; Friona, Panhandle, Happy and Dimmit, among others. He and his family came to Pampa in 1954 where he worked as a cement contractor for several years. Jesus was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church. He enjoyed getting the family and neighbors together to play baseball in the park. He liked to watch baseball, and the Atlanta Braves was his favorite team. He will be remembered as a dedicated, faithful and terrific provider. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.SURVIVORS: Wife: Lupe Velasquez of the home; 3 sons: Jesus Maria Velasquez and wife Linda, and Domingo Velasquez and wife Joyce, all of Pampa, and Rick Velasquez and wife Peggy of Amarillo; 4 daughters: Aide Nava and husband Joe of El Paso, Maria Ramos and husband Manuel, and Margie Cawthorn and husband Jerry, all of Amarillo, and Lolly Carver and husband Tommy of Pampa; 3 sisters: Maria Cortez and husband Martiliano of San Antonio, Lupe De La Rosa and husband Robert of Coleman, and Inez Martinez of Hobbs, New Mexico; 28 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jesus was preceded in death by a son: Johnny Velasquez in 1949; a daughter: Rosie DeWitt in 2008, a brother: Antonio Velasquez; a sister: Carmen Arredondo; and his parents: Jose and Julia Velasquez.MEMORIALS: Hospice of the Southwest, 1301 S.
