Clinton M. Evans

Memorial services in Pampa, Texas will be announced at a later date by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Clinton M. Evans, 91, formerly of Pampa, went to be with his Lord Jesus on June 27, 2008. He died peacefully at a nursing home in Montana from the cumulative effects of old age. His kindness, selflessness, wisdom, and humor will be missed by all who knew him.Clinton was born April 13, 1917 in Mooringsport, Louisiana. He lived in several Arkansas and Texas towns before moving to Pampa in the 1930s. He graduated from Pampa High School then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he ran varsity track and graduated cum laude with a business degree.He married Donna Jo Berry on May 24, 1941. They lived for a short time in Plainview, Texas before Clinton joined the service, where he served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II as the logistics officer for the African theatre. After the war, Clinton and Donna Jo settled in Pampa where they lived for four decades. After retiring, Clinton and Donna Jo moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1983, and then on to Bozeman, Montana in 2001 to be near their daughter. Clinton and Donna Jo were married for 67 years.In Pampa, Clinton was general manager and co-owner of Tex Evans Buick, which was founded by his father. He served as a director on various community boards, including the Citizens Bank & Trust and the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority. He was also president of various service organizations, such as Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he was active in the First Methodist Church.Clinton was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Clifton "Tex" Evans and Mora Eunice Evans as well as his brothers Allen Evans and James Evans.Survivors include his wife Donna Jo Evans; son Dean Evans and wife Patti of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Berkley Hudson and husband Jon of Bozeman, Montana; two grandchildren, Scott Evans and wife Kelly and Stephanie Hester and husband Greg; and 7 great-grandchildren: Abby, Grace, Davis, and Matthew Evans, and Katherine, Caroline, and Margaret Hester.In remembrance, the family suggests a memorial to the M. D. Anderson research fund where his grandson conducts research (MD Anderson Cancer Center, PO Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486, www.mdanderson.org/gifts, please specify in honor of Clinton Evans), to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) in honor of his dedication to meeting his wife's needs, or to the National World War II Memorial in honor of the "greatest generation" (www.wwiimemorial.com).
