Harold Powers

SERVICES: A private service will be held with Rev. Jim Sinyard, associate pastor of the Carpenter's Church, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U. S. Marine Corps. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Powers was born on July 14, 1925 in Emory, Texas. As a child, his family moved to Lefors where he lived and attended school until his induction into the U. S. Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a marksman with the rifle and served as an anti-aircraft gun crewman and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. He married Wanda Cargill on April 19, 1957 in Clovis, New Mexico. He worked for Carlson & Cradduck in the pipeline industry for many years and was a heavy equipment operator, bulldozer operator, and truck driver. He was a member of the Pampa VFW Post. Mr. Powers enjoyed woodworking and gardening, but most of all, he loved to be with his grandchild. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather with a shining sense of humor and expressions to match.SURVIVORS: Wife: Wanda Powers of the home; 1 son: Jim Powers of Pampa; 1 daughter: Jamie Powers-Stewart and husband Jon of Amarillo; 2 sisters: Norma Faye Skinner of Fort Worth and Nadine Bichsel of Pampa; 1 granddaughter: Chelsie Lynn Powers of Pampa; and 1 great granddaughter: Jacie Sierra Adcock of Pampa; numerous nieces and nephews; and a beloved dog, Baby. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Gyle Powers, by four brothers, H. C. Powers, H. R. Powers, James Powers, and Hollis Powers, and by a sister, Narlene Burks.MEMORIALS: The Arbors, 1910 Medi-Park Dr., Amarillo, TX 79106.
