SERVICES: 2:00 PM Friday, January 11, 2008, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Barry A. Loving, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. BURIAL: Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military honors courtesy of U. S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Gilbert was born January 23, 1928 in Hobart, Oklahoma. He married Paulette Traywick on November 5, 1949 in Clovis, New Mexico. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1950. Charley retired from Celanese as a supervisor in 1987, after 35 years of service. After his retirement, he worked for B & B Solvent for 17 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1657, the Borger American Legion, and the Pampa Moose Lodge. Charley was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.SURVIVORS: Wife: Paulette Gilbert of the home; a son: Ernie Gilbert of Sacramento, California; a daughter: Kim Leigh Wilson and husband Kelley of Amarillo; 4 sisters: Anna Sue Clayton and husband Sonny, Cathy Poole and husband Harold, all of Borger, Mildred Lois Wright and husband Jim of Sweeny, and Peggy Gilbert of Dallas; 2 brothers: Buddy Gilbert of Garland, and Tommy Dale Gilbert and wife Fran of Irving; 5 grandchildren: Kari Gutierrez and husband J. J. of Irving; K'Leigh Brummett of Dallas, Kelly Brummett of Amarillo, Amanda Gilbert of Pine Bluff, North Carolina, and Eric Stiffler and wife Amanda of Panama City, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles D. and Muriel Gilbert, and a sister, Claris Turbett.MEMORIALS: To a favorite charity.
