She attended Tarleton State University and moved to Denison where she worked for Western Union. It was her job to deliver death notices to families who had a son killed during World War II. One day, the cab driver who came to pick her up was Ernest Barnett. They later married on February 29, 1945. They moved to the Rio Grande Valley where they lived for years before moving to Pampa in 1980. Dorothy will be remembered for enjoying golf and playing forty-two with her husband and friends; the trips she took with her sisters; for all the years she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School; and for the many, many delicious meals and pies she lovingly made for others. Most of all, Dorothy will be remembered for her love of the Lord, which is the greatest gift she ever gave her husband and children. Though a stroke may have taken her physically, He has taken her spirit, which is now rejoicing. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.The family is ever grateful to the staff of Coronado Healthcare Center and Odyssey Hospice who took such loving care of their wife and mother. She is survived by her loving husband, Ernest Barnett of the home; two sons, Jerry Barnett & wife Kim of Little Rock, Arkansas, and David Barnett & wife Carla of Portland; a daughter, Jana Barnhill & husband Robert of Lubbock; daughter-in-law, Kathy Barnett of Houston; three sisters, Jo O'Donnell of Spring, Edith Tountas & husband James of Waco, and Sally Richardson of Beaumont; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Holly, Amy, Angela, and Taylor; seven great-grandchildren, Haley, Matthew, Nathan, Emma, Tyler, Kyla, and Kaleigh; and many other family members and friends.MEMORIALS: Sunny Glenn Children's Home, P.O. 1373, San Benito, Texas 78586.
