BURIAL: 11:00 AM Saturday, September 15, 2007, at the Ira Cemetery in Ira, Texas, under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home of Snyder. Local arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Bailey was born July 7, 1935 in Rotan. He graduated from Ira High School in 1953 and was a member of the Ira Methodist Church. He married Nell Murphy on December 5, 1958 in Grady, New Mexico. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1979. Mr. Bailey worked in the oilfield for many years and for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, retiring in 2006. He was a former board member of the Snyder Boys Club, the Snyder Jaycees, the Post Jaycees where he served as president, and the Perryton Jaycees. He was an honorary life member of the Perryton Jaycees and served as state director. He was a member and president of the Stinnett Kiwanis, and a member of the Stinnett Booster Club. Mr. Bailey was a member and past president of the Top O' Texas Rodeo Association. He was a member of the Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge #1381 AF & AM, the Pampa Shrine Club where he served as president, the Amarillo Khiva Temple, Mini-Vettes, Noble Mobiles, and Khiva Clowns. Mr. Bailey served in the Texas National Guard, 112th Infantry, serving as squad leader when he was honorably discharged in 1963. SURVIVORS: Wife: Nell Murphy Bailey of the home; 1 Daughter: Rhonda Bailey Dittfurth of Amarillo; 2 Grandsons: Loyd Dittfurth & wife Cassie of Woodward, Oklahoma, and Joe Dittfurth of Amarillo; 1 Granddaughter: Mary Dittfurth of Amarillo, as well as many other family and friends, he was "Papa Joe" to many, and in his heart, he considered them all his family.
