SERVICES: Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, August 10, 2007, at the First Christian Church in Pampa, with Capt. William Hoggatt, U. S. Air Force Chaplain from Altus, Oklahoma, officiating.BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Lt. Col. Ayres was born June 30, 1937 in Pampa and was a graduate of Pampa High School. He graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock where he participated in the ROTC program. He married Brenda Stephenson on January 25, 1959 in Pampa. He was commissioned into the U. S. Air Force on January 25, 1960. He was a flight commander for the F-4E Phantom II aircraft fighter. His plane went down on January 3, 1971 over Laos during a bombing mission. SURVIVORS: Wife: Brenda Ayres of Lewisville. 2 Sons: Steve Ayres of Amarillo and Jim Ayres & wife Meleah of Plano. 1 Daughter: Allison Johnson & husband Tom of Carrollton. 5 Grandsons: Davin Martinez, James Ayres, Kirby Ayres, Nathan Ayres and Tommy Johnson. 1 Granddaughter: Stephanie Johnson. 1 Great-Grandson: Alex Martinez. Mother: Lacy Ayres of Abilene. 1 Sister: Dorothy Ann Davidson of Abilene. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Ayres, in 1969. His father, John Ayres, died in 1987, and his sister, Mary Helen Callarman, died in 1996.
