Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Burnett, a devoted husband, cherished father and patriot, was born September 19, 1923 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Hershel W. & Onie Mae Burnett. He attended school in Pampa and entered the U. S. Army on January 15, 1943. Staff Sgt. Burnett entered combat with the 137th Infantry, 35th Division, Company K, in France on July 4, 1944 against the German army. He and his company walked 1600 combat miles. He spent 253 active days on the front lines in combat. Longtime friend and fellow infantryman, Col. Robert F. Baker said, "Sgt. Burnett's gallant conduct in the face of tremendous odds enhanced and sustained the highest traditions of the U. S. Army." He married Ouida Eudell Hancock on December 22, 1945 in Pampa. SURVIVORS: Wife: Eudell Burnett of the home. 1 Daughter: Dian S. Burnett of Pampa. He was preceded in death by Eudell's beloved sister and his "adopted sister," Patricia Inez Hancock.The family would like to thank the special people who lovingly helped him make his final journey home: Dr. Keith Black and staff, Dr. Max Warren, Shirley Langwell, Bertha Cordoba, Twany Johnson, Consuelo Perez, Jeanette Sanchez, Mecca McBee and Maria Sanchez.
