SERVICES: 10:00 AM Friday, December 1, 2006, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with John Curry, officiating.BURIAL: 2:00 PM Monday, December 4, 2006, at the Washburn Prairie Cemetery in Washburn, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Covey was born December 13, 1906 in Thayer, Oregon County, Missouri, not too far from Washburn, Missouri, to William Thomas Gregory and Nancy Elizabeth Hoog Gregory. She was reared in Mena, Arkansas, and graduated from Peabody High School in Peabody, Kansas. She had been a resident of Pampa since February of 1928, moving from Duncan, Oklahoma. She worked for Mr. Charlie Thut for 18 years, at the Gray County Courthouse, which was at that time in Lefors. She was the last living person who worked at the Courthouse in Lefors. She was later elected to the office of the Gray County Treasurer serving from 1946 until her retirement in 1970. She helped to obtain retirement benefits for all county employees in 1970. She married David M. Covey on September 14, 1968. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1990. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Gray County Democratic Club, the Altrusa Club and the B&PW organization.SURVIVORS: Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, including nieces: Willine Fox of Pampa, Ernestine Farris of Livermore, California, and Ola "Skeet" Myers of Graham, Washington; and caregivers, Tonya, Alicia, Kendra, Brandi and Glenda.
