SERVICES: At Mr. Downey's request, his body was donated to Texas Tech Medical School in Lubbock. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 18, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in White Deer, with Rev. Alan Wilson, pastor, and Rev. Pam Lehman, pastor of United Methodist Church of White Deer, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Downey was born April 29, 1927 in Coleman County, Texas. He married Laura Willie June 21, 1948 in Amarillo. He farmed in Hereford from 1951 until 1973. He then relocated to White Deer and continued farming until retiring in 1996. He was a member of the White Deer Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church of White Deer. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Europe during World War II. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others in need. He was preceded in death by a son Joel Downey, daughter-in-law Ruth Downey and grandson Paul Downey, all in 1974, his parents, T. O. & Kitty Downey, 8 brothers and 2 sisters. SURVIVORS: Wife: Laura Willie Downey of the home. 1 Son: Dennis Downey of Euless. 3 Daughters: Karen Houchin of Crosby County, Virginia Artho of Hereford, and Cindy Brown of White Deer. 1 Sister: Dovie Long of Lubbock. 8 Grandsons: David Downey, Jeremy Artho, Jared Artho, Matthew Artho, Erin Houchin, Daniel Houchin, Charles Brown and Cale Brown. 2 Granddaughters: Sarah Artho and Kate Downey. 4 Great-Grandchildren: Abigail Houchin, Elijah Houchin, Reiter Artho and Amber Artho.MEMORIALS: White Deer EMS, P.O.
