SERVICES: 2:00 PM Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Howard Lynn Rhodes of Surprise, Arizona, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Achord was born March 12, 1927 in Centralia, Oklahoma. He was one of twelve children born to Dulcy & Ora Achord. He served two years in the U. S. Army, and after being discharged, he moved to Guymon, Oklahoma. He married Clara Dee Arnett on May 5, 1947 in Liberal, Kansas. They moved to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1950 where he was employed by Cabot. He transferred to Pampa in 1954, and retired in 1987. He was a longtime member of the Highland Baptist Church. He was a member of the Pampa Optimist Club where he worked with the baseball program. He was an avid bowler. He also helped with the building of the Hidden Hills Golf Course and was a member of the Moose Lodge.SURVIVORS: Wife: Clara Achord of the home. 1 Daughter: Donna Bennett of Pampa. 2 Grandchildren: Kelly Bennett of Jenks, Oklahoma, and Kimberly Cryer & husband Brent of Edmond, Oklahoma. 2 Great-Grandchildren: Cade Cryer & Jace Cryer, both of Edmond, Oklahoma. 5 Sisters: Marie, Faye, Mary Lou, Bobbie and Pat. 1 Brother-in-Law: Arland Arnett of Amarillo. Several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Johnny Achord of Pampa. He was preceded in death by a son, Alvin Joe Achord, his parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers and 5 brothers-in-law.
