While being raised on the family farm near McGregor and attending local schools, she was surrounded by her sister, Geneva, and a large extended family with whom she remained in close contact throughout her life. Mrs. Thompson left McGregor to attend North Texas State University where she graduated in 1946. After college, she moved to Austin and began working as a secretary in the University of Texas Law School where she met her husband, Jimmy E. Thompson. They were married on September 25, 1948 in McGregor, and he preceded her in death on April 24, 1994. The couple moved to Amarillo for one year before choosing Pampa as their lifelong home. Mr. Thompson began his private law practice, and she became active in the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and civic activities within the community while beginning to perfect her life's work, which was to raise her three children with grace, love, and ideal example. As a homemaker, she provided her family with all the elements that molded a loving and warm environment. She particularly excelled in the kitchen where she fed many with her delicious creations and, in particular, her homemade bread which she continued to bake until very recently. Her friendly nature and positive attitude carried her through life and touched those whom she met.SURVIVORS: 2 sons: Gene Thompson and wife Carol of Pampa, and Jim Thompson and wife Cathy of Amarillo; a daughter, Margaret Ann Rice and husband Charles of Dallas; a sister, Geneva Barse of Fort Worth; and 3 grandchildren, Emily Rice, Charlie Rice, and Mary Margaret Rice, all of Dallas. The family wishes to thank the many friends who supported Margaret during these last few years when her health began to fail.
