SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, Texas, with Ann Jordan Davidson, officiating. Local arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Gaut was born July 27, 1915 in Gordon, Texas. She attended Baylor University and graduated from West Texas State University in 1935 with a B. S. degree in education, and a M. S. degree in education in 1950. In 1966, she earned a Reading Specialist Certificate as well as certification in administration and supervision from the Texas Department of Education. Marjorie began her teaching career in Goodnight, Texas. She taught school until her marriage to Perry O. Gaut in 1938. The rule not allowing married women to teach school was changed during World War II, and in 1944, she was recruited by the Pampa Independent School District. She taught elementary, junior high and high school, served as registrar, counselor, reading specialist, and later moved to the central office as elementary education coordinator. She finished her educational career as assistant superintendent for instruction K-12 in the PISD from 1968 to 1981. After her retirement in 1981, she moved to Springfield, Missouri to be with her family. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma for 60 years. She served as president of the Beta Delta chapter from 1952-1954. In Springfield, she was active in the University Heights Baptist Church, Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Sorosis Club, E.S.O., and KKI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry O. Gaut.SURVIVORS: 1 Son: William P. Gaut & wife Jeannie Walker Gaut of Springfield. 2 Grandsons: Dr. Joseph P. Gaut & wife Dr. Sarah Jost Gaut of St. Louis, Missouri, and Robert W. Lowe III, and his fiancee Abby Padgett of Springfield, Missouri. 1 Sister: Bobby Jo Altmiller & husband Dr. Wendell R. Altmiller of Statesboro, Georgia.
