In 1917, the family moved by covered wagon to western Wheeler County. She graduated from Mobeetie High School in 1927. She had been a resident of Lefors since 1937. She married J. E. "Eldon" Carter on September 5, 1937 in Pampa. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1996, after 58 years of marriage. She was a beautician for 27 years. She was a member of the Lefors Art & Civic Club. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, an avid ceramic crafter, china painter and gardener. She was a member of the Lefors Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe D. Carter; 4 sisters, Mrs. Bert (Myrtis) Welch of Amarillo, Mrs. Ted (Martha) Schones of Amarillo, Mrs. Johnny (Imogene) Murrell of Pampa and Mrs. Homer (Anita) Hathaway of Borger; and 1 brother, Neil Herd of Pampa. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Ray Carter of the home. 1 Granddaughter: Bricca Carter of Everett, Washington. 1 Grandson: Macsen Carter of Lusby, Maryland. 1 Great-Granddaughter: Beth Combs of Everett, Washington. 1 Daughter-in-Law: Barsha Carter of Lusby, Maryland. 1 Sister: Mrs. Charles M.
