SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Fairview Cemetery, with Rev. Bob Hudson, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. VanHouten was born November 24, 1926 in Stanton, Texas as Dorothy Ray Bailey. She worked as a nurse in the Big Spring area in the early 1950's to the late 1960's, then in the Odessa and Kermit areas until the early 1970's. She was instrumental in the starting of the Howard College's Nursing School and was a graduate of the first class taught. She never met a stranger and never passed up anyone in need of help. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and she will be sorely missed and happily remembered. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Guy Bailey, Jr., and Bill Bailey, a sister, Lena Briles, and a grandson, Antonio Esqueda. SURVIVORS: Husband: W. C. VanHouten. 3 Children: Earlene Esqueda, Elaine White and Wayne Trantham. 4 Stepchildren: Wynell Bohannon, Donald VanHouten, David VanHouten, and Linda Whitley. 2 Sisters: Lou Darden and Linda Currie. 26 Grandchildren, 28 Great-Grandchildren, 12 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
