He was a lifelong resident of Pampa before moving to Bryant, Arkansas, 10 years ago. He was a 1976 graduate of Pampa High School and received a B.S. degree in agricultural education from Texas Tech University in 1981. He married Ruth Whittaker on November 18, 1995 in Benton, Arkansas. He attended the Salem Avenue United Methodist Church in Bryant, and was a former member of the Bible Church of Pampa. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ethel & Clarence Matthews and Leo Smith.SURVIVORS: Wife: Ruth Smith of the home. Stepdaughter: Stacy Whittaker of the home. Stepson: Trevor Whittaker of the home. Parents: Earl & Barbara Smith of Pampa. Sister: Dana Holland of Breckenridge, Colorado.
