J. David Fatheree

David Fatheree was born on October 31, 1936 in Pampa, the grandson of Pampa pioneers T. D. and Minnie Hobart and son of the late Clyde and Laura Fatheree. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1954 where he was a member of student council, the golf team, the Latin Club, and was a varsity cheerleader. In 1958, he received a BBA degree from Oklahoma University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the U. S. Army. He married Mary Elizabeth Mann of Duncan, Oklahoma, in 1958. They moved back to Pampa in the early 1960's where Mr. Fatheree went into the insurance business, subsequently owning and operating Fatheree Insurance Agency until the late 1990's. He was affiliated with Duncan, Fraser, and Bridges Insurance Agency in Pampa at the time of his death.Mr. Fatheree was a member of the first group of inductees into the Pampa Harvester Hall of Fame. He has twice chaired his Class of 1954 reunion committee and spearheaded the Pampa High School landscaping project begun by former PHS graduating classes. David attended nearly every class reunion, and in 1996, he was made an honorary member of the PHS Class of 1956 by the Committee for the Preservation of the Class of 1956 for his attendance at their reunions. He served as board chairman of the Pampa United Way from 1974 until 1978 and as drive chairman in 1978. He continued to work for United Way until his death. He was a past director of the Salvation Army Board, a member of the White Deer Land Museum Advisory and Foundation Boards, Pampa Community Concert Board, former board member of the Pampa Youth and Community Center, and he was a member of the first board of directors of the Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo. He received a Golden Nail Award for his work on Pampa's centennial celebration.He was a member and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church and the Everyman's Bible Class. David was a past president of the Pampa Country Club, former chairman of the Top O' Texas Golf Tournament, and a former member of the Pampa Rotary Club. Other organizations supported by Mr. Fatheree include Hospice of Pampa, Shepard's Helping Hands, Pampa Fine Arts Association, Junior Service League of Pampa, St. Matthew's Episcopal Day School, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Meals on Wheels.His hobbies included playing golf with friends and his grandsons, Taylor and Garrett. He supported all Pampa athletic teams through their booster clubs and through private contributions, and Fatheree Insurance Agency ran countless newspaper and radio ads supporting football, basketball, track, and golf teams through the years. David also worked on committees to honor former Pampa coaches and athletes.SURVIVORS: Wife: Mary Fatheree of the home; a son: David M. Fatheree and wife Natha of Pampa; 3 grandchildren: Taylor, Garrett, and Madison Fatheree, all of Pampa; a brother: Hobart Fatheree and wife, Ann, of San Antonio; and a sister-in-law: Ann Fatheree of Amarillo.
