Harry Clifton Skaggs

SERVICES: 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Dr. Johnny Funderburg, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.BURIAL: Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Oklahoma, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Skaggs was born November 11, 1913 in Buffalo, Missouri. He had been a resident of Pampa most of his life. He married Alta May McCoun on July 21, 1941 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. They were married for 61 years and 7 months, the happiest years of his life. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2003. He worked in pipeline construction, operating all types of heavy machinery. He also did welding and mechanic work on numerous kinds of machinery. Some of the companies he worked for were Brodie Construction of Amarillo, Gorman-Phillips of Perryton, Frenchie LeBlanc of Shamrock, Carlson & Cradduck Construction of Pampa, and O. R. Smith of Wichita, Kansas. His work did require him to reside in many places through the years, such as Shamrock, Amarillo, Perryton, Borger, Dallas, and Bridgeport, Texas; Guymon, Palls Valley and Edmond, Oklahoma; Aurora and Sterling, Colorado; Elkhart, Liberal and Medicine Lodge Kansas; Cherokee and Emmetsburg, Iowa; and Nebraska. He retired after 43 years of service. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1978. Although totally deaf since he was 21 years of age, he was faithful to his church and attended regularly. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 1 brother. We would like to say a very special "thank you" to Harry's BSA Hospice RN, Ken Carpenter, and the whole "Circle of Friends" home crew who were so compassionate, loving and kind during his last days of lymphoma. You went out of your way to make him as comfortable as he could possibly be, and we appreciate that so very much. He really thought a lot of all of you.SURVIVORS: 2 Stepsons: Roger McCoun & wife Velma of Amarillo, and Rodney Skaggs & wife Artalee of Yucaipa, California. 5 Grandchildren: Kelly McCoun of Abilene, Chris McCoun & wife Dawn of Carrollton, Rhonda Cavalletto of Paso Robles, California, Jay Skaggs and Robin Carlton, both of Yucaipa, California. 10 Great-Grandchildren: Carl, Craig, Andy, Cerra & Cayla Cavalletto, Jed Skaggs, Jake & Jamie Carlton, and David & Haley McCoun.
