Thacker Haynes, pastor of United Methodist Church of McLean, officiating.BURIAL: Burial will be in Miami Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: With her family at her side, Helen Locke Carter died at her Miami home. Mrs. Carter was a lifelong resident of Roberts County, born on May 17, 1938, and raised in a 4th generation pioneer family. She married local rancher Frank M. (Buster) Carter on February 17, 1959, who died in 2002. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and received her B.A. degree in English from Texas Tech University in 1963. A longtime volunteer with the Friends of the Pampa Library and Roberts County Library Board, she participated in numerous programs, especially those involving adult literacy. She was a member of the First United Methodist church in Pampa. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Locke Carter & wife Rebecca Rickly of Lubbock. 1 Daughter: Susan Rhoades & husband Jerry Rhoades of Pampa. 4 Grandchildren: Landon Carter and Ellis Carter, both of Lubbock, and Lindsay Rhoades and Tyler Rhoades, both of Pampa. 1 Brother: David Locke & wife Diana Locke of Miami, and their 2 children, Erin Locke and Mitchell Locke, both of Lubbock. 1 Aunt: Empress Signor of Lubbock.
