SERVICES: 10:00 AM Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Lefors, with Rev. Lewis Ellis, retired Baptist minister, officiating.BURIAL: Memorial Heights Cemetery in Lefors under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.BIOGRAPHY: A longtime resident of Lefors, Mrs. Blackwell passed away peacefully the morning of January 22, 2005 in Burleson. For the past year and a half, she had resided at Trinity Mission Nursing Home in Burleson near her son and his family. She was born September 17, 1903 in Foss, Oklahoma. She moved to Lefors in 1928 with her husband Fred. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lefors for 55 years. She worked with the Lefors Independent School District as a volunteer for 23 years to graduate 3 children. She was a member of the Lefors Art & Civic Club, and was a longtime member and past worthy matron of the Eastern Star. She helped her husband organize the Lefors Federal Credit Union in 1961 and served as assistant manager and bookkeeper for 21 years. After retiring from the Credit Union, she continued to serve as a board member for 8 more years. In her later years, she retired from outside activities due to eye problems which ultimately led to blindness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Fred Wyatt Blackwell, and her grandson, Douglas Blackwell of Burleson. SURVIVORS: 2 daughters: Bettye Sue Clegg of Whitesboro and Evelyn Shelton of Knox City; a stepdaughter: Freddie Henson of Pineville, Missouri; a son: Fred W. Blackwell of Burleson; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
