SERVICES: Private burial was in Van Alstyne, Texas. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 20, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Pampa, Texas. A reception will follow at the Pampa Country Club. Local arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Watkins was born June 1, 1930 in Heavener, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Canadian High School in Canadian, Oklahoma in 1948. He then joined the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1948 to 1951 while based in Alaska. He attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater from 1952 to 1953 and North Texas State University in Denton from 1953 to 1955. As he received his education from the aforementioned, he played basketball and excelled on these teams. He was a member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas. He was a mason and a member of Northwood Club in Dallas, where he was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and loved to be with his family. He began his career with NCR and was a representative from 1955 to 1962. He was the owner and operator of 26 Gibson's Discount Centers from 1962 to 1983. He owned Handy Hammer Building Supply Centers from 1980 to 1988. He was in cattle ranching from 1966 to 1993 in McAlester, Oklahoma. He was an oil and gas developer, producer, and operator from 1976 to present. He was in commercial real estate from 1962 to present as president of Sandra Corporation. He was also an author, has his first book published in October of 2004. The name of the book is ?The River of Life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar Watkins and Lucille Culbertson Watkins.SURVIVORS: wife: Sandra of the home. 2 sons: Joe Watkins and Mike Watkins; daughter-in-law: Shelly Watkins; 3 grandchildren: Ross, Allison, and Blake Watkins and 1 great grandchild, Averie Watkins.
