Raymond Walter McPhillips Jr.

March 31, 1925 — April 7, 2004

SERVICES: 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, Texas, with Rev. Lynn Garrett, associate pastor of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo, Texas, officiating. Military rites will be held at the funeral home by U. S. Army personnel from Fort Hood, Texas. BURIAL: Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. McPhillips was born March 31, 1925 at Evansville, Indiana, to Raymond Walter and Edith Robins McPhillips, Sr. He was reared and received his education in Evansville, Indiana and Hobbs, New Mexico. Mr. McPhillips entered the U. S. Army on April 3, 1945 and was honorably discharged on May 9, 1946. He was married to Margaret Faye Delver on January 17, 1947 in Pampa, Texas. He was employed at the U. S. Post Office in Pampa for over 30 years, serving as Postmaster before his retirement in 1971. Mr. & Mrs. McPhillips moved to Bartlesville in 1999 to be near family, and she preceded him in death on May 9, 2002. SURVIVORS: 2 Sons: Larry David McPhillips of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Mark Steven McPhillips of Wichita, Kansas. 1 Brother: Tommy McPhillips of Houston, Texas. 2 Sisters: Margie Storseth and Pauline Watson, both of Amarillo, Texas. 5 Grandchildren. Mr. McPhillips was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jimmy McPhillips, and 3 sisters Edith Payne, Winnie Evers, and his twin Margaret Ann McPhillips.
