SERVICES: Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, Sept. 16, 2002 in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor of the United Methodist Church of McLean, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Carter was born May 17, 1937 in Pampa. He married Helen Locke on Feb. 17, 1959 in Miami. He was a lifelong resident of Roberts County. He was a rancher with banking and oil interests. He was a member of the 1954 Pampa Harvester basketball team when they won the state championship. He was an entrepreneur and supporter of Texas Tech University athletics and scholarships. He was an avid golfer. He supported many Pampa organizations and was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.SURVIVORS: Wife: Helen Carter of the home; 1 son: Dr. Locke Carter and wife Dr. Rebecca Rickly of Lubbock; 1 daughter: Suzy Rhoades and husband Jerry of Pampa; 1 brother: Patrick Casey Carter and wife Patty of Sun Valley, Idaho; 1 sister: Phebe Ann Hethcock and husband Rev. William Hethcock of Sewanee, Tennessee; 4 grandchildren: Lindsay and Tyler Rhoades, both of Pampa, and Landon and Ellis Carter, both of Lubbock.
