Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, November 19, 2012, at Hobart Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Watson, pastor, officiating.Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Mr. Smartt was born March 15, 1929 in Batesville, Arkansas. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1939, attending schools in Pampa. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He enlisted in 1946 and served in Germany until the war was over. He was then discharged in January of 1950. He married Leona Ruth Yearwood on May 28, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2002, after 50 years of marriage. Jessie was employed at Transmix Concrete, Harvester Lanes and retired from McCarty-Hull after numerous years of service. He was a member of the Pampa Optimist Youth Club where he coached Little League and Babe Ruth for a number of years. He was an avid bowler for many years, including traveling bowling. Jessie loved sports and fishing, especially the family trips to Canton Lake (where there are camp sites named "Yearwood Point" after his in-law name of Yearwood.)Jessie was saved and baptized on February 5, 1989 at Hobart Baptist Church. He had been a faithful member and served as head usher. He loved his church family and loved God.Survivors include 2 sisters-in-law: Dorothy Yearwood of Pampa and Mona Yearwood of Amarillo; a brother-in-law: Marvin Yearwood and wife Jerry Lee of Riverside, California; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews (thought of as children and grandchildren by him.) He loved to attend all of their sports and school events. He was preceded in death by his parents: Haskell and Nobie Smartt; a brother: Earnest Smartt; and a sister: Louise Brown.Memorials may be made to Hobart Baptist Church, 1100 W.
