Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, December 17, 2012, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Blossom Matthews, pastor, and Rev. Todd Dyess, interim pastor of United Methodist Church in Groom, officiating.Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Helen Ruth was born June 1, 1918 in Fort Worth. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from West Texas State University in Canyon. She married Dock Mackie on January 7, 1940 in Sayre, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1960. Helen Ruth taught second grade at Baker Elementary School in Pampa for over 30 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Crusaders Sunday school class. She was a member of 20th Century Study Club, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Texas Retired Teachers Association and Pampa Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include 3 sons: Gary Mackie and wife Diane of Kingwood, Dwight Mackie and wife Sherry of Richmond, and Richard Mackie and wife Carey of Pampa; 8 grandchildren: Sean Mackie of Austin, Danielle Fogarty and husband Matt of Allen, Bret Mackie of Richmond, Julie Mackie and Brandy Bordelon, both of Houston, Aly Watkins and husband Jordan of Denton, Jack Mackie of Euless, and Dock Mackie of Dallas; a great-grandchild: Autumn Fogarty of Allen; 2 nieces: Dorothy Bird and husband Walker of Pampa, and Suzanne Leggett and husband Freddy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen Ruth was preceded in death by her parents: Walter and Minnie Thompson; a brother: Larry Thompson; and a sister: Maidee Thompson.
