Vernell Fortin, 85, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Fairview Cemetery, with Rev. Micah Meurer, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Mrs. Fortin was born April 1, 1927 in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was a 1945 graduate of Pampa High School. She married Joe L. Fortin, a pro baseball player, on February 7, 1948 at the Holy Souls Catholic Church in Pampa. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2000. Vernell worked at Citizen?s Bank and Trust and worked as a bookkeeper at White House Lumber Co. She was involved as room mother and baseball team mom in her four children?s activities. She was a sweet person who always enjoyed being around her family and friends. Vernell loved being Mom, Grandma and GG to her four children, eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: David Monroe Bynum and Gladys Pearl Bynum.The family wishes to express their thanks to Interim Hospice and her very special friend, John Stewart of Pampa. She is survived by three sons: Mike Fortin and wife June and Gary Fortin and wife Tammy, all of Amarillo, and David Fortin and wife Sherri of Orting, Washington; her daughter: Debbie Davis and husband Greg of Pampa; eight grandchildren: Michelle Snell and husband Eric and Catherine Fortin, all of Amarillo, Melinda Tyler and husband Wade of Corpus Christi, T. J. Davis and wife Jen of Wolfforth, Clayton Davis and wife Shantillee of Pampa, Drew Grimsley of Portland, Oregon, Sgt. Dusty Fortin and wife Kayla of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Krissy Workman and husband Jason of Puyallup, Washington; and 18 great-grandchildren.Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 2217 Perryton Pkwy, Pampa, Texas 79065, or a favorite charity.
