Eugene ?Gene? Bynum, 79, died April 5, 2013 in Pampa.Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, April 8, 2013, at Fairview Cemetery, with Rev. Alan Wilson, pastor of First Baptist Church of White Deer, officiating, with military honors by U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Mr. Bynum was born April 6, 1933 in Pampa, and was reared in Pampa. After attending Pampa High School, he lied about his age to enlist in the U. S. Army where he served during the Korean Conflict. Gene was wounded several times and received the combat infantryman?s badge, the Korean service medal with 4 bronze stars, and a Purple Heart. He married Amy Louise Rutherford on September 21, 1969. She preceded him in death on January 12, 2007. Gene coached kids in football, basketball and baseball. He served as a volunteer and former president of the Pampa Optimist Club where he received the Optimist of the Year award. He loved his family, sports and fishing. Survivors include his son, Mickey Bynum and wife Tina of Euless; 3 daughters, Elizabeth Thrasher of Nixa, Missouri, Glenna Swanson and husband Robert of Skellytown, and Toi Barrett and husband Jim of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 2 brothers, Joe Bynum and wife Nita of Spearman and Paul Bynum and wife Julie of Silsbee; a sister, Beth Westberry and husband Gary of Georgia; 2 sisters-in-law, Nora Bynum of California and Clo Ann Bynum of Guymon, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many precious nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by a son, Rocky Bynum; his parents, I. R. and Hattie Lee Bynum; and 4 brothers, Dick, Phillip, Elmer and Ralph Bynum.Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Attn: Gift Processing, P.O.
