Shelby Ray Cogdell, 84, of Pampa, died peacefully at his home with his daughters by his side on Sunday, April 21, 2013. A joint memorial service for Shelby and his wife of 59 years, Joyce Hill Cogdell, will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Richard Bartel, chaplain of Hospice Care of the Southwest, officiating. Military honors will be courtesy of U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Joyce passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2013 with her husband and daughters by her side. As in life, they will be memorialized together forever.Mr. Cogdell was born June 21, 1928 in Delhi, Louisiana to Robert and Ethel Cogdell. He attended high school in Tallulah, Louisiana and college at Northeast Junior College in Monroe, Louisiana. He moved to Pampa in 1947 and retired from Cabot/Ingersoll Rand in 1985 after 35 years of service. He was awarded a lifetime membership to the Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM. Shelby and Joyce were married on April 9, 1954 in Clovis, New Mexico, and became lifelong companions. They resided in Pampa for 61 years and raised three girls. Shelby and Joyce loved the outdoors and spent most of their retirement camping, fishing and spending time under the grape arbor in their backyard. Joyce filled much of her time with crossword puzzles and game shows. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice Care of the Southwest for their gentle care of our father.Survivors include three daughters, Shelley Rupert and husband Paul of Milton, Florida, Kelley Cogdell and husband Mike Bartley of Arlington, and Carla Cogdell and husband Jerry Horton of Panhandle; 6 grandchildren, Kelsey Womack and husband Eric of Pace, Florida, Kristen Rupert of Mobile, Alabama, Jacob Rupert and wife Katie of Ketchikan, Alaska, Jessica Tait of Greeley, Colorado, Nakisha Horton of Denver, Colorado, and Kevin Bartley of Waco, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.The family requests memorials be made to the W.
