W. D. ?Dub? McKendree, 90, died Sunday, May 26, 2013, in Pampa.Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 30, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Nachtigall, chaplain of Interim Hospice, and Rev. James Scott Moore, his grandson and executive pastor of First United Methodist Church of Conroe, officiating.Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Masonic rites courtesy of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM and military rites courtesy of the U. S. Navy. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Mr. McKendree was born Dec. 3, 1922 in Vega to John and Ellen McKendree. He graduated from Vega High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon. Dub served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II in the South Pacific at Leyte, Tunin, Saipan, and the Lenguan Gulf. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in action. On Dec. 17, 1948, Dub married Mardell Mask in Amarillo.Dub was a senior engineering technician for the Texas Highway Dept. for 30 years before retiring in 1977. He was a former scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America. Dub was a member of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966, American Legion, Pampa VFW Post, First United Methodist Church, and the Monte Vista Elks Lodge in Monte Vista, Colorado where he and Mardell spent their summers. He loved visiting with friends and telling stories of the past. He loved music, and in his younger years, danced the Jitterbug and the Lindy Hop with his lovely wife, Mardell.Dub and family especially appreciated Chaplain Paul Nachtigall and the staff at Interim Hospice for their wonderful care. He loved his sons-in-law, Jim Moore and David Geyer, as they were the sons he never had.Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mardell, of the home; two daughters, Deborah Ann Moore and husband Jim of Willis and Karen Lea Geyer and husband David of Drumright, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Rev. James Scott Moore and wife Jeannie of Conroe, Nathan David Geyer and wife Lisa of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Neil J. W. Geyer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Kendra Lea Metcalfe and husband Bill of Mannford, Oklahoma; nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
