Earnest Lee Mathis, Sr., 88, died July 23, 2013 in Pampa.Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, August 2, 2013, at the Open Door Church of God in Christ, with Rev. Hubert Kelly, pastor, officiating.Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Mr. Mathis was born March 15, 1925 in Wellington. He married Precious Anderson on October 2, 1942 in Wellington. She preceded him in death on December 9, 1988. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1950. Earnest was employed by Celanese Chemical Company in plant maintenance. He was a member of the Open Door Church of God in Christ and was a licensed minister. Earnest was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He loved his family and took great pride in taking care of his family. Earnest was an anointed Christian man who loved Jesus and enjoyed telling others about his Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, John Givens, a daughter, Carolyn Mathis, two grandsons, William Rogers and Marcello Jones, and a son, John L. Mathis.Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Mathis-Olulu of Pampa, and Regina Williams of Denver, Colorado, four sons, Earnest Mathis, Jr. and wife Mary, Stanley Mathis and wife Sandra and Esteven Mathis, all of Pampa, and James Mathis of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, a sister, Ruth Ann Random of Mesa, Arizona, 27 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
