Miami, TexasMary Elizabeth Thompson, 91, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, in Pampa.Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at the First Christian Church in Miami with Steve Porter, minister of Primitive Baptist Church in Paducah, and Rev. Billy Holland, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.Mrs. Thompson was born Dec. 30, 1921 in Little River, Texas to Paul Dean and Rosa Lee Jones. She was raised in Bryan and was a graduate of Bryan High School. She married J. W. "Jub" Thompson on April 5, 1942 in College Station. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2002. Mary had been a resident of Miami for the past 68 years. She and her husband owned and operated Thompson Farm and Home Supply in Miami. She attended the First Christian Church. Mary was known throughout the Panhandle for her generosity, caring, and love of life. She was preceded in death by her parents, by five sisters, and a brother.The family wishes to extend special thanks to Mary's niece and "second" daughter, Martha Porter, and her husband, Steve, who were always there for her. In addition, the family wants to express their appreciation to the ladies at her table at the Meredith House' Ernestine, Beulah, and Doris for their caring compassion for Mary.Survivors include two sons, Dr. Paul Edward Thompson and wife Margot Gill Thompson of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Alan "Butch" Thompson and wife Kay of Miami; a daughter, Deborah Hawkins and husband Don of The Woodlands; and a sister-in-law, Sue Jones, of Brunswick, Georgia. Mary was also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great great grandsons who brought great joy to her life, and by several nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Christian Church, 201 E. Tascosa, Miami, TX 79059 or a favorite charity.
