Shallowater, TexasLaverne Roberts Saunders, 88, died October 4, 2013 in Lubbock.Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, October 7, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, Texas with Jeff Foster, her grandson, Dr. L. Ken Jones, and Dr. Jim Harris, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Memorial services will be held at the 12th Street Church of Christ in Shallowater, Texas at 2 PM Tuesday, October 8, 2013 with Jeff Foster, officiating. Family friend Denton Wiggains will lead the congregation in selected hymns. Laverne was born October 26, 1924, in Wheeler, Texas to Lee and Letha Roberts. She graduated from Pampa High School and Amarillo Business College. She was baptized on June 22, 1944 at the Central Church of Christ in Pampa TX. She and George Franklin Saunders were married there on January 28, 1945. They lived in Dexter and Roswell NM, Hale Center TX, McLean TX and Forgan OK before relocating in the Lubbock and Shallowater area.She is survived by her daughters Janice (Loyd) Wright of Flower Mound, Texas and Joyce (Jim) Foster of Lubbock, Texas. Her six grandchildren are: Jeff (Nancy) Foster of Gallup, New Mexico; Laura Wright of Lewisville, Texas; Julie (Joe) Bollinger of Arlington, Texas; Alan (Julie) Wright of Spring, Texas; Jase (Tosha) Foster of Shallowater, Texas; and Jeana (Mark) Culbert of Shallowater, Texas; eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Grady Roberts of Spring, Texas; and two sisters; Adell Walin of San Antonio, and Leola Bracey and husband Ross of Carrollton; and a son-in-law, Joe Organ, of Terrell, Texas.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her youngest daughter, Judy Organ, and her youngest sister, Marie Steed.Laverne enjoyed spending time in Bible Study, quilting, oil painting and gardening. She influenced many people for the Lord by teaching Bible classes at church as well as many years of teaching at Boiling Springs Bible Camp, Black Mesa Bible Camp and through the World Bible School.
